Personal Progress - October - How can I become more Christlike?

Personal Progress Value experiences that go along with the Come Follow ME lessons for October:

Individual Worth

3

Read Doctrine and Covenants 18:10 and 121:45. Do all you can to build others and make them feel of worth. Every day for two weeks notice the worthwhile qualities and attributes of others. Acknowledge them verbally or in writing. In your journal write what you have learned about the worth of individuals and how your own confidence grows when you build others.

Heavenly Father has given you special gifts. Read 1 Corinthians 12:4–1213;Moroni 7:12–1310:8–18; and Doctrine and Covenants 46:11–26. Ask a family member, a Young Women leader, and a friend to write down positive qualities the Lord has given you. List your gifts in your journal, and write how you can continue to develop these

Divine Nature

Develop your divine qualities. Read Matthew 5:9; John 15:12; Galatians 5:22–23;Colossians 3:12–17; 1 John 4:21; and Moroni 7:44–48. Memorize your favorite verse from one of these passages. Identify the divine qualities mentioned in all these scriptures and list them in your journal. Select one quality, and for two weeks strive to make it a part of your daily life. Record your progress and experiences in your journal.gifts and use them to serve your family and others.

Obedience is an attribute of the Savior. Strive to be more obedient to your parents. Read Luke 2:40–51 and John 6:38. Develop a pattern of obedience as you make a special effort to treat your parents with respect and kindness and do what your parents ask you to do without having to be reminded. After two weeks record in your journal how being more obedient motivated you to want to continue doing so and how it has helped you understand your divine nature and the divine roles of mothers and fathers.

7

Learn the definition of the word peacemaker. Then find and read five scriptures that teach about peacemakers. Become an example of a peacemaker in your home and at school as you refrain from criticizing, complaining, or speaking unkindly to or about others. Pray each morning and evening to Heavenly Father for help to do this. After two weeks write in your journal what new habits you want to develop, how being a peacemaker is part of your divine nature, and how you will continue to be a peacemaker.

Good Works

6

Spend at least three hours giving service outside your family. Ask your ward or branch Relief Society president or a community leader for suggestions for service. For example, you might take care of children while parents attend the temple; collect, make, or recondition toys or games for a nursery; accept an assignment to clean the meetinghouse; or perform errands for or read to a homebound person or others in need. Record in your journal the reactions of the person you served and possible goals for future service opportunities.

Read Doctrine and Covenants 58:26–28. Think of ways a young woman, as well as a wife and mother, could apply this scripture in her family. Develop a pattern of service in your life by choosing a family member you can help. Serve that person for at least a month. Record in your journal your actions and feelings about how this improved your relationship with that person.

Read Mosiah 18:7–10, and in your journal list three ways you can comfort others or help them bear their burdens. Do the things on your list, and tell a family member or leader about the experience and how your attitude and understanding have changed.

Come Follow Me - October 2013 - How Can I become More Christlike?

For the Presidency message for the first week of the Month:
Lesson: How Can I become More Christlike?
Jesus Christ set the perfect example for us, and He has commanded us to become as He is. He exemplified characteristics such as faith, hope, charity, patience, humility, purity, diligence, and obedience. As we learn of Him and seek to develop His attributes, we will become the women He and our Heavenly Father would like us to be.
I  Will be using the following qualities in the talk below as the basis for my lesson.
Consider the following Christlike qualities. How are we doing in strengthening them within ourselves?
Christian love. The Savior valued everyone. Kind and compassionate to all, He left the ninety and nine to find the one,12 for “even the very hairs of [our] head are … numbered”13 to Him.
Christian faith. Despite temptations, trials, and persecutions, the Savior trusted our Heavenly Father and chose to be faithful and obedient to His commandments.
Christian sacrifice. Throughout His life the Savior gave of His time, His energy, and ultimately, through the Atonement, gave Himself so that all of God’s children could be resurrected and have the opportunity to inherit eternal life.
Christian caring. Like the good Samaritan, the Savior was continually reaching out to rescue, love, and nurture people around Him, regardless of their culture, creed, or circumstances.
Christian service. Whether drawing water from a well, cooking a meal of fish, or washing dusty feet, the Savior spent His days serving others—lifting up the weary and strengthening the weak.
Christian patience. In His own sorrow and suffering, the Savior waited upon His Father. With patience for us, He waits upon us to come to ourselves and come home to Him.
Christian peace. Throughout His ministry He urged understanding and promoted peace. Especially among His disciples, He taught that Christians cannot contend with other Christians, notwithstanding their differences.
Christian forgiveness. He taught us to bless those who curse us. He showed us the way by praying that those who crucified Him would be forgiven.
Christian conversion. Like Peter and Andrew, many recognize the truth of the gospel as soon as they hear it. They are instantly converted. For others it may take longer. In a revelation given through Joseph Smith, the Savior taught, “That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day,”14 the perfect day of our conversion. Jesus Christ is “the light and the Redeemer of the world; the Spirit of truth.”15
Christian endurance to the end. In all His days, the Savior never gave up doing His Father’s will but continued in righteousness, goodness, mercy, and truth to the end of His mortal life.
These are some of the characteristics of those who hear and heed the Savior’s voice. As one of His special witnesses on the earth, I give my Christian testimony that He is calling to you today, “Come, follow me.”16Come walk the path that leads to eternal happiness, joy, and everlasting life in the kingdom of our Heavenly Father. In the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer, amen.https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2012/10/being-a-more-christian-christian?lang=eng
I Personally love the list above because it gives examples of how Christ  demonstrated  each of the attributes which could lead into great discussion about how we can "live" the attributes of Christ.
Activity: Have a picture of Christ on the Blackboard and ask the girls to think of the Personal attributes of Christ.   Give each girl a card with an outline of the Savior on it and ask  them to fill in the inside of the the picture with the words they can think of that describe his attributes,  then have another card with an outline of a person on it.... this time get them to think of someone they consider holds a lot of Christ-like attributes and get them to write them too.  The last page another outline...this time get them to fill in attributes they personally have on the inside of the picture  outline.... and then to think of ones they could develop further and have them write those on the outside of the outline.  Encourage the girls to think of things they can do throughout the week to develop at least one of those.
EXCUSE THE PAINT PICTURE - ITS JUST TO REMIND ME OF THE BASIC IDEA FOR THIS ACTIVITY

A possible hand-out idea:  On a clear peice of transparency sheet,  draw an outline of a person..... have the girls write in sharpie around the outside of the picture attributes they would like to develop. Have them take the picture home and stick (with dishwash liquid) to a mirror, so that each day they can see themselves in the "picture" to remind them to try during the day to develop or practice those attributes.

About Me / about this blog

With a new calling as Young Women President in my ward I need a place to gather my thoughts.  Blogging was such a great method for me to do so with my previous calling as Faith in God leader so I'm sure it will be a great help with this new beginning.
So here is where I will post things I find helpful and want to save for future reference and I will also post any handouts, activity ideas etc that might be helpful for others.
